Index Funds

What the experts are saying……...

The Index Fund

An Index fund is a mutual fund that matches the performance of a major market index. For example, the Dow Jones Industrial Average or S&P 500. The way it does this is by investing in the exact same companies as the Dow Jones and at the same proportions. It mirrors the index exactly.

The indexes outperform 80% of managed funds. Index Funds track the entire market. This strategy has historically out performed most managed funds over the long term. Investors aim for above average returns but most fail. You can guarantee the market average by investing in high performance index funds.

Canadians pay the highest mutual fund fees in the world. But now you have an alternative. The average Canadian balanced fund has an MER of 2.6%. We will put you in an Index Fund for just 0.95%. On a $100,000 investment that's a $1,600 savings that stays in your portfolio as profit to you in the first year alone.

Financial experts agree on the index-based approach. Financial experts around the world say the average Investor is better off simply buying the markets with a good index-base fund. See the article at the bottom of our “Why invest in Index Funds” page from June 10, 2008 in the Toronto Star of the challenge from Warren Buffet to Mutual fund managers of how his investment in an index will outperform their professionally managed fund.

All the diversification you need can be found in one fund. The Index Fund is a diversified balanced fund with Investments spread across four major stock and bond Indexes in Canada the US and overseas.

Saving your money on management fees powers your overall returns. Saving 1.6% on MER fees with The Index Fund can make a huge difference to your investment over the long term.  When you are saving for retirement you want to ‘set and forget’ your investment.  You want to be able to invest your money, achieve the market average and in 20-30 years you have a large nest egg for retirement.
